Migrating operating system and data from the physical server to a virtual machine.

Manual P2V
Create a VM on host and install same operating system, and copy all the data and application form the physical server.

Semi automated P2V
Semi automated tools assist a user in moving servers from a physical state to a virtual machine state.

Fully automated
Fuully automated tools execute the entire process with no administrator for migrating but intervention required.

VMware vCenter Convertor

• VMware vCenter convertor has two edition, Enterprise edition which is payable and Standard edition which if free.
• This tool migirate P2V as well as V2V
• This tool P2V conversion is not supported for UEFI source machine
• Supported operating system (Windows, Redhat, SUSE and ubuntu)
• Support resolution requirement 1024x768 pixels

Supported Source Type

• Powered on physical machine
• Powered off virtual machine (ESX/ESXi, Workstation, Player and Fusion)
• Hyper-V machine
• 3rd  party VM and System image

Supported Destination Type

• VMware vCenter or ESX.ESXi
• Any VMware hosted Hypervisor like Workstation, Player and Fusion.
